There are seven main Ionian islands, which gives the group its Greek name of Eptanisa, which literally means 'seven islands'. There are also one or two smaller islands such as Antipaxos and Antikythira too. Six of the main islands are in the Ionian Sea, tucked between Greece and Italy, while the seventh, Kythira, stands on its own at the foot of the Peloponnese, not really logically in any of the main Greek island groups.
In sapphire waters, the islands of the Ionian Sea welcome you to their paradise. Kefalonia, Corfu, Zakynthos, Lefkada, Ithaca, Paxi. All the islands of the Ionian Sea amaze with their beauty. Zakynthos is the southernmost of the Ionian Islands and also the third largest. It covers an area of 405 square kilometers and is home to just over 35,000 inhabitants. The island is located 300 km west of Athens and 9.5 miles from the coast of the Peloponnese, from where you can reach the island by regular ferry.

The warm waters around the coast of the island contribute to the long tourist season (from May to the end of October) and attract the interest of tourists from many countries, especially due to the fact that Caretta Caretta turtles, which are a rare species of animals, breed in the southern part of the island.
Kefalonia. The island of Kefalonia is a great holiday destination that will appeal to lovers of vibrant beaches and sunny resorts. It is located in the heart of the Ionian Sea and is the largest of the islands in this region. The area of Kefalonia is 800 square kilometers. The population is only 40 thousand people.
Lefkada. Lefkada is the fourth-largest island in the Ionian Sea. It is the only island connected to the mainland by a pontoon bridge. There are famous resorts on the coast: Nikiana, Pergyali, Lygia, Nydri, Vasiliki, and Porto Katsiki. The island is covered with dense vegetation, especially in the southern and eastern parts. Tourists are attracted here by the endless golden beaches and gradual, gentle descent into the water. This 325 sq. km. lives a little less than 23 thousand people.
